The Attention Diet

A revealing question to ask about people: could you describe them as having a twinkle in their eye?

One of the regular steps you should take is introspection, to make sure your other steps are heading in the direction you want them to.

Trying and struggling looks like incompetence right until the moment it looks like success. Similarly, the indicators of success don’t always represent consistent competence.

The struggle is necessary and is itself therapeutic.

Granularity of the goals determines the frequency of success. Break it into small goals and it won’t look like a struggle at all.

Every choice you make is a step toward or away from the person you want to become. No single choice will get you where you want to go. Only repeated steps over time in the same direction will move you forward.

Incrementalism and essentialism. Cut out the noise in your life (junk information and relationships), and you’ll have less things to waste your time and attention on. Cultivate habits of deeper focus and a longer attention span. Correctly identify nutritious information and relationships.

You can be anything but you can’t be everything.
